Choosing a knee brace
Knee supports and braces come in many styles and materials.
Styles and Features
- Knee straps are designed to allow full mobility and help alleviate knee pain due to improper tracking or alignment of the patella.
- Elastic knee supports permit full range of movement while providing comfortable support and protections against bumps and blows. Help keep muscles pliable, reducing susceptibility to injury.
- Knee stabilizers are useful for mild and mild-moderate knee strains. Stays on each side add medial and lateral support. You can also use a hinged stabilizer. A hinge design mimics the knee joint axis, and gives you extra stability and support.
- Knee braces provide support for weakened muscles, tendons and ligaments and help reduce the chance of injury recurrence.
- Flexible metal stabilizers provide medial/lateral support and stability, stimulating the action of natural knee ligaments without restricting normal movement.
- Straps allow you to adjust the compression for a custom fit.
- Gel cushions inside the brace can improve comfort.
- Removable magnetic pads placed over the outside of the support generate a magnetic field over the lumbar area, where pain relief is needed.
- Longer length braces offer extra support and compression.
- A closed patella design provides equal compression and support on and around the kneecap area. An open patella helps prevent slippage.
Materials
- Neoprene helps retain the therapeutic heat generated by your body by increasing circulation and keeping muscles pliable, reducing susceptibility to injury.
- Antimicrobial treatments inhibit bacteria growth on the inner and outer lining of the braces. It is intended to protect the product and does not extend protection to the skin.
- Breathable fabrics such as woven cotton or terry linings help to release unwanted moisture.
